Viburnum shrubs, with their beautiful foliage, fruits and flowers can be a gorgeous addition to your beds and borders. They’re great for wildlife and provide shelter for many garden birds, whilst also bearing some pollen and nectar rich flowers and nutrient filled berries.

With so many varieties to choose from, you can take your pick of Viburnum sargentii with its maple style leaves and small white flowers. Or if you want a hardier evergreen, try Viburnum tinus which has dark green oval leaves that are joined by tiny white flowers in spring.

Viburnums are very easy to grow and are low maintenance. They grow in any moist but well-drained soil type, and needs little pruning over time. Make sure you plant them in a prominent non-shady spot so that the berries and flowers can bloom to their full potential.
