Even in its 8th year, Cultivation street is introduced to new and exciting gardening projects. Edible Rotherhithe, an organisation working with schools, have been running a twice-weekly food growing afterschool club for the pupils of Surrey Square Primary School free of charge.

Cultivation Street is not just raised beds and thriving allotments, there are so many different elements to our community gardens, including those that encourage making sure Mother Nature and all her creations flourish and thrive.

With so many of your gardens being full of all different types of plants, vegetables and herbs we know it may be difficult to keep track of which is what. So why not DIY your own plant labels. It’s a fun activity that everyone can get involved with, especially on a rainy day, when outside gardening isn’t really an option.

From small things come great things, and Dallington CE school has proven that. Seven years ago they were awarded a grant that they used to build a raised bed which they divided into sections—one for plants, one for vegetables and one for herbs and fruit.

With Cultivation Street 2020 up and running, community and school gardens across the country are getting ready for spring—schools like Star Primary, who are already in their greenhouse starting to sow their seeds.

The beginning of March means spring is just around the corner and gardeners everywhere are full of ambitious growing plans. In this article, I’ll be looking at community growing as a way to dial up your cultivation endeavours. And this year, Cultivation Street – for community, school and gardens for better health – launches into its eighth year; giving away thousands of pounds in the name of nature. Supported by Miracle-Gro®, 2020’s competition is set to be the biggest national gardening year yet.
