A lot of our amazing community gardens have an abundance of raised beds, we have also seen a few of you bringing raised beds into your garden. So why build a raised bed? We thought we’d let you know a few benefits of raised beds and what they can do for you and your garden.

You can start gardening earlier

Raised beds are known for their good drainage of soil, allowing earlier planting in the wetter months. With better water drainage, it means it warms up faster when spring arrives, which is perfect for if you want to get a head start on your garden.

You can specify soil to certain plants

With an array of specific composts available to suit different plants, when you are gardening in the ground it can be hard to choose the best compost for all your plants. With raised beds you can allocate each bed to specific type of plant, ensuring the compost and feed you are using is enabling you to get the best blooms possible. Visit Love the Garden website to see all the available composts for your garden.

They are great for beginners

Gardening can be quite a daunting experience if you have never done it before. With an array of plants, vegetables and products it’s hard to know where to start. That’s why raised beds are perfect because you can focus your attention on one thing at a time and get the most out of your first garden.

Do your back a favour

We have all spent a day in the garden on our hands and knees and come in feeling like we have run a half marathon. We know that gardening is a great form of exercise, but sometimes it can take a toll on our backs and joints. Not only is there a reduction in weeds in a raised bed, which keeps you off your hands and knees pulling them out the ground, but they allow you to be more upright and less strained. So, if you tend to suffer with a bad back, consider getting some raised beds in your garden.
